MDTA New Teachers Workshop
Since 1989, the MDTA has sponsored a three-day workshop for new teachers. Participants receive hands-on teaching strategies and day-to-day lesson plans for teaching debate as an activity in the classroom, or for developing a competitive debate program.
Curricular materials and demonstration videos are available for the participants. Workshop topics include:
- An Introduction to Debate
- Teaching Novice Policy Debate
- Teaching Lincoln-Douglas Debate
- Demonstration Debates
- Innovative Debate Formats and Outreach Programs
- Team/Program Management
- Topic Analysis
Workshops are held in August. Exact dates and host venues change from year to year. Previous workshops have been held at Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Paul Academy and Summit School, Macalester College, and Mounds Park Academy.
