With a month of competition behind us, the MDTA Cup race has truly begun! Varsity debaters in CX, PF, and LD garner MDTA Cup points for in-state tournament participation and placing. The top 2 point-earners for each school at each tournament are counted towards team points. Full rubric of point allocations can be found here: http://mdta.org/2009/09/29/announcing-mdta-cup/
In Policy debate Minneapolis South has a clear lead in team points with 8, followed by Wayzata with 5, then a 3-way tie between Roseville, Bloomington, and Eden Prairie each with 4. The individual point leader is Dan Bannister of Highland Park who is out to an early lead with 7 points, followed by AJ Gerick of Minneapolis South and Ian Dil of Highland Park with 5 points each.
The Public Forum group is densely packed with three debaters tied for the lead – Ryan Mather of Eastview, Maddy Hillson of Robbinsdale, and Sara Hodgson of Robbinsdale each have 6 points. The next 8 debaters are just a point behind the leaders– so it is definitely still neck and neck. In the team points column Eastview (13) has a single point lead over Maple Grove (12), with St. Paul Academy and Robbinsdale two more points back (10).
Lincoln-Douglas debaters are a bit more spaced out but the lead is shared by Dylan Adelman of Lakeville South and Andrew Urevig of Robinsdale, each with 8 points. The next closest debater is Matthew Balascak of Eagan with 6, followed by 4 competitors with 5 points each. In program points Eagan is in the lead with 14, followed by Robbinsdale with 13, and Lakeville South with 12.
